I think we all know a few basic things that we often forget to live up to. For example, at a difficult time, we need to keep our minds calm because only then we can think clearly and resolve the issue, but that is when we lose our minds the most.
When we are happy, content and loved, our bodies produce hormones such as dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin. Immune system is a very complex process, but based on so many studies published, it is safe to say that these happy hormones can positively modulate our immune responses. On the other hand, when we are stressed, our bodies' response to stress can suppress parts of the immune systems. Clearly, being cheerful and happy is much more helpful during a global pandemic crisis, but that is when we stay somber. Sometimes we be so because we feel so, but too often we stay somber because we don’t want to appear as if we don't care about the gravity of the situation. At times, we even pretend to stay subdued because we think it feels and looks right to be sad during a pandemic when people are dying, economy is stalled, society is paused. To be honest, I don’t need to pretend, I truly feel subdued these days. But, human physiology says, we can actually help us better by staying happy or at least stress free.
If or when you are infected by a virus, you can take medication or go to hospital for advanced treatment. But ultimately, it is a fight between the virus and your immune cells. Until your immune system wins against the virus, the fight continues. A person with a strong immune response is far more likely to defeat the virus than someone with a compromised or weak immune system.
Whether you are in quarantine, self isolation or maintaining social distance, eat healthy and stay happy. Do whatever you enjoy doing - art, music, prayer, meditation, spending time with loved ones.
Keep your immune prepared to defeat COVID-19.
On this note, let us welcome Bangla 1427 wholeheartedly while maintaining physical distance!
